While you scroll down Home, Calendar or Following, the top bar and the tabs slide out of the way. Scroll up a little and they’re back.
What changed, and the places you follow
October 2026
“What’s changed & next” on Home now shows real changes this week — new applications, closures and moved plans — alongside what’s coming up. The ones you follow come first.
Tap the bell for updates from organizations and schools you follow. Following never sends texts or phone alerts.
Every organization page now has Updates, Events and About. “Via KBRW” opens the full KBRW announcements.
A clearer Home, + Post and Following
October 2026
Home opens on a picture of your region, with shortcuts to Jobs, Housing, Health and All services, and a short “What’s next” list that takes you straight to each post.
Use + Post to send in an event or news, and find the organizations, schools and events you follow under Following.
Long alert titles stay short on Home; open the alert to read all of it.
A shorter weekly text
October 2026
Weekly texts focus on important meetings, school dates and community highlights. See the full Calendar for more, or reply with an event number for details and optional reminders.
More useful community texts
October 2026
Text ARCTIC for weekly events across the Slope, with community labels and important school dates.
Reply with an event number for details. Choose a one-hour reminder with R and the number; cancel it with X and the number.
More stories from your community
October 2026
Keep reading local news alongside community posts, with more stories as you scroll.
Open a story's photo and excerpt, then return to your place in the feed.
Find more reporting about local culture, traditions and community life from regional publishers.
Keep browsing
October 2026
Calendar now has one Upcoming list. Keep scrolling for more dates, including from the Month calendar.
Home has one steady updates bar, with earlier versions of repeated weather bulletins tucked into their history.
More of the story in Local news
October 2026
Local news cards now show a short publisher excerpt and a larger photo when available, with a clear link to read the original story.
Local news, easier to find
October 2026
Find recent local stories near the top of Home, with a compact preview and More local news. Community, culture and school stories lead the selection, with links to the original reporting.
Local reporting in your Home feed
October 2026
Read stories from local newspapers and radio stations alongside community posts in Bethel, Ketchikan, Nome, Kotzebue and the Eastern Sierra, with links to the original articles.
The right logo on more programs
October 2026
Services programs now show the logo of the organization that actually runs them, across all eight regions — a department or office shows its parent organization's mark, and a program with no verifiable mark shows initials instead of a borrowed image.
Today first
October 2026
The Week view opens on today's events again. A class or gym session that meets on set days is one plain row on the day it meets, marked "Ongoing through …" — no more full-screen list up top.
Only on the days it happens
October 2026
A class or a voting window that runs on certain weekdays now shows up only on those days — not every day in between.
Listen to KBRW from the Calendar
October 2026
When KBRW is airing something on the Calendar — election night results, the playoff game, the candidate debates — the card says so and a Listen button plays KBRW 680 AM right here.
"On KBRW this week" on Home is now a clear entry to this week's announcements.
A weekly class or service takes one place under Ongoing in the Week view, with its schedule, instead of a card for every session.
Find the form you mean
October 2026
Forms search understands everyday words — "home repair", "apartment", "rent help" and "scholarships" find the right forms, with the closest match first.
Pick a need with one tap: the filter is a row of buttons instead of a dropdown.
Each form shows the logo of the office it comes from.
Show times together
October 2026
Events from one post now share a poster in the Calendar, with a separate link for each show time.
Post times stay current while you browse.
A day you can read
October 2026
The day's clinic visits sit in one small block at the top — every provider and village together, yours first.
A place's regular hours (the gym, the pool) show as one group with the times listed.
Everything else runs in time order.
Your village, up top
October 2026
Pick your village and Home and the Calendar start with what's filed under it this week — the rest of the region follows.
The header, the weather line and the sunset follow your village.
Your own clock
October 2026
Gila River and Bishop: today, posted dates, school days and deadlines follow your local time zone.
Services pages no longer offer Ask Olen where it isn't available in your region.
Corrections and more Services doors
September 2026
Event pages show the full published correction again, in the publisher's words.
Sunset times on Gila River and Bishop are in their own time zones.
Services has two more doors — Rides & travel, Culture & community — and cash and family programs now sit in their tiles.
More room to read
September 2026
The top bar tucks away while you scroll and returns when you scroll up; the tabs stay put.
Local news and a Calendar map
September 2026
Ketchikan, Nome and Bristol Bay homes show the latest local headlines from their own newsroom, linking to the original story.
The Calendar has a Map view: one pin per community with this week's events, and a list of what isn't on the map.
Learn about this land: a link to Native Land Digital at the foot of the map and in More.
Services, event pages and organizations in every region
September 2026
Services now works the same in every region: search, the help directory, program pages, forms and the resource guide.
Event pages show the host, the flyer, the other dates in a series, and one Save button.
Tap an organization's name on a post to see its updates, events and programs, and follow it.
The post menu (⋯) lets you follow the publisher, open the original post, or hide the post.
Search in your region
September 2026
Tap the search icon to search events, updates and services in your own region.
Have an event? Submit it from the end of the Calendar list.
Who is hosting, at a glance
September 2026
Calendar rows now name the organization hosting each event, with its logo when there is no flyer.
Clinic visits on the same day in your village, and the school advisory council elections, are folded into one row you can open.
On Home, the Today heading and the topic switch stay at the top while you scroll.
More of Home on the first screen
September 2026
Topics are a small pill next to Today. Pick a topic and it stays at the top until you clear it.
The school invitation now lives in the Calendar, next to the school filter, and shows only until you pick a school.
Saved, and a faster Calendar
September 2026
Save an event and find it again under Saved. It stays on this phone; no account needed.
Calendar shows Today, Week or Month. Rows are compact with a small flyer, and a repeating event lists each of its days.
Home cards show the date, place and any change above the flyer.
A simpler Arctic Slope home
September 2026
Find updates, dates and services through Home, Calendar and Services.
Search current events, updates and the service directory. Choose a school from a readable list and keep your place when you return.
Listen to KBRW or open its full announcements from one compact row.
Bishop-area schools and services
September 2026
Find school pages and local service contacts for Bishop, West Bishop and Dixon Lane-Meadow Creek. Your community’s full name stays visible in the location picker.
Food & Deals is paused
September 2026
Food & Deals and new deal listings are paused. Old links explain the change and take you back to your community. Calendar, public notices and food-assistance resources remain available.
Choosing your region, on one screen
September 2026
Choosing where you are is one short list now — every region fits on one screen, grouped by state, with what each one has. Type your town, village or district to pick it in one tap. The pin up top opens the same list.
Gila River Forms
September 2026
Gila River now has a Forms tab: health care and clinics, housing, enrollment and per capita, utilities, Head Start and scholarships, schools, and the forms to fill in for each, from official Community pages.
Gila River
September 2026
OlenHub opens for the Gila River Indian Community — community-wide news plus Sacaton (District 3) and Komatke (District 6), on Arizona time. Every school on the Community is in Schools, and Important Numbers lists the Community's own police, crisis line, clinics and utilities.
Bristol Bay adds the Iliamna Lake villages
September 2026
Bristol Bay now covers Iliamna, Newhalen, Nondalton, Port Alsworth, Igiugig, Kokhanok, Levelock, Port Heiden and nearby villages, with their schools.
Bristol Bay schools and Ask Olen
September 2026
Bristol Bay: every school in Dillingham and the villages shows its school-year dates, and Ask Olen can answer questions about Bristol Bay.
Bristol Bay is here
September 2026
Bristol Bay is now a region: Dillingham, Naknek, King Salmon and the nearby villages get their own calendar, feed, Food & Deals and a Services directory.
Where are you?
September 2026
Opening olenhub.com in a browser that has never picked a region now asks once — Arctic Slope, Bethel, Ketchikan, Nome or Kotzebue — instead of showing the Arctic Slope to everyone. Skip keeps the Arctic Slope; the pin up top still changes it any time.
A shared post or event link that names its region is remembered as your region on that first open, so Home is yours after it.
Event details now include the full original public Facebook caption when available, with its source link.
An event and service notice from the same Facebook post share one Calendar flyer, with separate details for each.
Check closures before following a regular schedule
September 2026
Piuraagvik's regular programs now show an advisory when a matching City closure affects their facility or room. Open the listing to read the official announcement before making plans.
Follow reopening and event updates
September 2026
Clearly matched reopening announcements update earlier closure dates while keeping the original notice available.
When an organizer explicitly restores the same cancelled event, Calendar brings it back with the restoration announcement.
More room for your community’s flyers
September 2026
Calendar flyers are large again, with softer cards and clear event details below.
Open an event in one tap and return to where you were browsing, with less loading and date-processing work.
The Wednesday text and notification now pick the week's big things — homecoming, tournaments and games, festivals, grand openings, conferences, fundraisers — instead of gym hours, board meetings and church times. Those are all still on the Calendar.
The weekly text now lists every reply option in one place: a number for a reminder, 0 for the school calendar, and CONNECT to try reaching local offices by text (a demo for now).
Today's posts are on the first screen again
September 2026
KBRW sits in one line near the top of Home. Tap Listen to hear it live, or tap the line to see this week's announcements right there.
My school fits in three lines: your school and today's status, then the next game and lunch — or the school's latest post when nothing is listed for today.
Your school's card always has something to show
September 2026
If your school hasn't posted anything for today, its card on Home shows the school's latest post, or a link to the school page.
The Wednesday notification matches the Wednesday text
When you've seen everything, the Feed says so instead of showing you the same posts again.
Heads up shows one line at a time, and an ordinary notice you've seen for a few days steps aside. Urgent orders like do-not-drink always stay.
OlenHub links open in the app
September 2026
Reading OlenHub in Facebook or on your phone's browser? A small bar at the top offers to open the same page in the free OlenHub app. Tap the x and it stays away for two weeks.
The floating Add button is gone, so it no longer covers cards and Call buttons. Send us an event from + Submit event on the Calendar, post a deal from Food & Deals, and find everything else under More, then Add to OlenHub.
Switching region keeps you on the Calendar, and it shows up right away
September 2026
Change your region while you're on the Calendar and you stay on the Calendar, now showing the new region. The same goes for Food & Deals and Forms.
The Calendar shows the next few days as soon as the page arrives, even on a slow connection, instead of a blank space while it loads.
Older months still open from the month view. They load when you page back to them, which keeps the Calendar quick to open.
If the app was left open while we updated it, a screen that can't load now refreshes itself once instead of staying blank.
A warning that is still in effect stays in Heads up, exactly as before.
Reminders open their event, and “this week” opens this week
September 2026
Tapping a reminder now opens the event it is about, not the whole calendar.
A new This week page shows everything happening from today through Sunday, the biggest things first, then day by day. Every event opens with one tap, and the full calendar is one tap away.
The link in the weekly text now opens that page.
On KBRW moves back up, and the Kaktovik water update stops repeating
September 2026
On KBRW now shows near the top of Home again, right under Heads up — not buried below the day's posts.
The Kaktovik water update no longer shows twice on Home. The status card at the top still has everything; tap it for the full history.
OlenHub keeps track of when things close
September 2026
When a notice says the last day to file, to apply or to bid, OlenHub now remembers that date and knows when it has passed — so a closed window stops looking open.
The date always comes from the notice itself. If a notice says nothing about closing, OlenHub says nothing either.
Food & Deals has more on it, especially outside Utqiaġvik
In Bethel, Ketchikan, Nome and Kotzebue this roughly doubles what is on the page. A listing whose own words give an end date still goes when that date passes.
An organisation's logo now sits on plain white instead of a coloured circle, so its own colours read the way they should.
The Arctic Raffle card shows the raffle's own picture
The prize and the closing time live on the raffle's own page, where they are always current — OlenHub does not repeat them, and the listing takes itself down when the raffle closes.
The Kaktovik water card shows where the work stands
Emergencies reach the top of the page, wherever you live
September 2026
A boil-water notice, a missing-person alert or an activated emergency centre now sits at the top of your feed in every town — before, only the Arctic Slope could do that.
Posts from clinics and crisis services come through again — 988 Day, crisis support numbers, how to recognise an overdose. A filter meant to keep unattended debates out was catching the help itself.
Still kept out: arguments about a charged subject, and anything aimed at a neighbour.
Remind me works in the browser now, not only in the app
On an iPhone it still needs the OlenHub app, or OlenHub added to your Home Screen — Apple only lets a website send notifications once you have added it. Until then the card keeps Save and the calendar button.
Turning a reminder off takes it back off your phone as well. We never use it for anything but the event you asked about.
Borough and city meetings sit at the top of their day
In a web browser the card keeps Save and the calendar button — the calendar button puts the event, and a reminder, into your own phone's calendar.
Turn it on whenever you like, including the same afternoon. A reminder switched on late still comes — before, one turned on after we had already sent that event's reminders was quietly never sent at all.
All-day things keep their own timing: a note in the morning, never a countdown to midnight. Nothing goes out overnight.
Safety warnings get through
September 2026
Scam alerts, fraud warnings and flood advisories now reach you. A filter meant to keep name-calling out of the feed was catching the warnings themselves — a flood advisory about “low-lying areas”, a Permanent Fund fraud alert, and every “SCAM ALERT” your neighbours posted.
Reports of a stolen bike, boat or canoe are back too — the kind of post the whole town can actually help with.
When your tribe, city or borough puts out a statement in its own name, you see it. We do not decide their words are too sensitive for you.
Still kept out: posts that name and shame a neighbour, and anything that names a child as a culprit.
And when the City posts that the gym floor is closed, the sessions on those days now say so — before, the closure was in one place and the schedule in another, and nothing put them together.
Ask Olen finds the right number again, and old offers step aside
September 2026
Ask Olen understands questions asked in your own words again — tell it you are a single mom and struggling, and it brings back the people to call, with their phone numbers.
Asking what is happening this weekend now means Saturday and Sunday — Friday games no longer crowd out the weekend.
Food & Deals lets go of an offer once its own deadline has passed, in every town — an auction that closed on the 18th no longer looks open on the 21st.
Posts read cleanly: the ** marks people type for bold no longer show up as stray symbols.
Behind the scenes: OlenHub now checks every town's own pages the way you see them, so a problem in one town can't hide because nobody thought to look there.
Where an organization's picture is a photo of their own building, we keep the photo on purpose — and where it is a campaign poster rather than their logo, the listing now shows no picture instead of the wrong one.
A post from a newspaper or from OlenHub’s own files no longer says it came from Facebook.
An organisation’s page shows only what that organisation runs
September 2026
When several organisations put something on together, it now shows on the page of the one actually running it — not on whichever partner happens to be named last. Clinics, trainings and meetings land with their real host.
And an organisation sharing a neighbour’s event no longer files that event under its own page.
A new spot on Today for interviews, surveys and community input — how long it takes, when it closes, and whether it pays.
We're looking for three people to talk with us for 30 minutes about OlenHub. If you're picked, we mail you a real $25 Visa gift card after the call.
A paid interview study on the Slope pays $20 an hour — listed with the contact and the sign-up deadline.
Running a survey for your organization? Swipe to the end of the row and tell us — we'll take a look.
Sending us an event is quicker: tap Submit event on the Calendar and you're straight into the form — add the flyer and you're done. Usually posted within an hour.
Posters full screen, money that stays current
August 2026
Tap any event poster to see it FULL SCREEN — swipe through multi-page flyers and add the event to your calendar right from the viewer.
Event cards now tell the whole story at a glance: schedule changes, online meeting links, and a link to the original post — no extra taps.
Real logos everywhere — schools, churches, the borough, the hospital, and local programs, so you can see who's behind an event instantly.
Find Money is now live: scholarship deadlines always show the next real date, and newly announced grants and assistance appear automatically.
The Help tab leads with what's timely — deadlines closing soon and money just announced sit right at the top.
Events open instantly with a loading preview, and browsing is smoother across the app.
Your calendar, one tap away
July 2026
Every event card now has Add to Calendar — one tap puts it in your Google or Apple calendar at the real date and time, including multi-day events.
Share sits right on the card too, so you can send a flyer to family without opening the event first.
The community calendar now checks for new posts twice a day, so afternoon announcements show up the same evening.
When an event's time or place gets corrected, a small “Updated” note tells you what changed.
A new Culture category makes Iñupiat culture events easy to spot on the calendar.
Ask Olen now points to trusted local help first — crisis lines, offices, and programs — before anything else.
Less in your way
June 2026
Open OlenHub and you go straight to what’s happening — no setup screens before you can look around.
Today’s Brief now leads with what’s actually happening today, instead of long programs that started weeks ago.
A little red dot now appears on Calendar or News when there’s genuinely new content since you last looked — so you never miss an update (and it only shows when something real changed).
On iPhone we’ll quietly let you know once, after you’ve had a look, that OlenHub is on the App Store — instant weather and safety alerts, events, and news on your phone.
Already using the app? We’ll gently offer your morning brief once — today’s events and safety alerts each morning — instead of nagging you to install what you already have.
Get the app, and clearer privacy
June 2026
You can now grab OlenHub straight from the App Store — look for the badge on the About and More pages.
Our privacy page is clearer about the little we collect: no precise location, no ad trackers, and only anonymous, community-level stats.
Fewer false “you’re offline” messages — the app now double-checks the connection before telling you it’s down.
More money you can actually apply for
June 2026
Find Money now lists more North Slope scholarships — your village corporation, the city, and tribal programs — each with a real, confirmed deadline.
Live countdowns show what's closing soon, so you don't miss a window.
Ask Olen can point you to the right scholarship for your village and set a reminder for the deadline.
Keep OlenHub one tap away
June 2026
It's easier to add OlenHub to your home screen, so it opens like an app — no app store, no account.
A smoother first-time welcome that gets you to what you need faster.
A smarter morning, only-current money
June 2026
Today's Brief now leads with the day's biggest event and what's coming up next.
Find Money hides opportunities that have already closed, so you only see what's still open.
See where the info comes from
June 2026
News and the Calendar now show when they were last updated, and that they're gathered from across the community.
The news feed puts official villages and organizations first.
An easy way to send in something that's missing or out of date.
A fresh OlenHub
June 2026
Ask Olen — your guide to the Slope, answered with real local sources.
