Nilavena Regional Health Center·IliamnaJoin Southcentral Foundation in wearing orange on Sept. 30, to recognize the National Day of Remembrance for U.S. Indian Boarding Schools. This day recognizes, honors, and supports the lost children, survivors, and their families, as we walk toward healing.
Between 1819 to 1969, the federal government operated approximately 21 boarding schools in Alaska. Communities experienced the unbearable trauma of the mass removal of children. The loss of language, names, and ancestral ways of being, ruptured entire generations of Alaska’s Indigenous children and communities. Generations were forever changed. #EveryChildMatters On Facebook
