Original post
Please join us in congratulating Margaret Aŋaqin Olemaun on her promotion to Facilities Manager at UIC Science. Maggie joined UIC Science as an Administrative Assistant in 2025 and quickly became an essential part of the team. She brings more than 30 years of experience in Utqiaġvik, including roles with the North Slope Borough, Iḷisaġvik College, the City of Barrow, and UIC. Her background includes operations, administration, grants, records management, and customer service. Since joining the organization, Maggie, a UIC shareholder, has supported daily operations and provided cultural orientations to visiting researchers, helping them better understand Utqiaġvik and the cultural context of working on the North Slope. “Maggie brought a tremendous amount of experience with her when she joined UIC Science, and she quickly demonstrated that she could take on greater responsibility,” said Dr. Cody Johnson, General Manager of UIC Science. “Her knowledge of the community and her support for our staff and guests are especially valuable.” As Facilities Manager, Maggie will oversee lodging facilities, the BARC research labs, multiple warehouses, and the light duty shop, ensuring these facilities remain ready to support year-round Arctic research. Congratulations, Maggie, on this well-deserved promotion. #uicalaska #utqiaġvik #northslope #alaskanative #iñupiaq #shareholdersfirst #employeespotlight #arcticoperations #uicscience
