Federal Subsistence Muskox Permit Lottery (GMU 23 NW)

Each summer, Western Arctic National Parklands (NPS) issues federal subsistence muskox hunting permits by lottery for hunts in Game Management Unit 23 NW: (2026 example: FX2312, 3 permits, north/west of the Kobuk River drainage, open to GMU 23 residents except Deering and Buckland) and FX2303, 5 permits, Cape Krusenstern National Monument, open to GMU 23 residents except Deering, Buckland, and Point Hope). Season runs August 1 - March 15. Eligible residents enter by giving their name, phone number, and permanent address to NPS staff by calling 907-318-2230 or emailing wear_webmail@nps.gov before the deadline; drawn applicants are notified and must show proof of residence and a valid Alaska hunting license.
