How to get a business license in Ketchikan (State license + Borough sales tax registration)

There is no City of Ketchikan business license. You need two things: (1) a State of Alaska business license from the Division of Corporations, Business & Professional Licensing, applied for online at commerce.alaska.gov/web/cbpl (annual fee; some professions need a separate professional license), and (2) Ketchikan Gateway Borough sales tax registration before you open - Sales Tax Registration Application to the Borough Finance desk, 1900 First Ave Suite 118, 907-228-6620, Mon-Fri 9am-4:30pm, then quarterly sales tax returns. Home-based food businesses also follow State DEC cottage-food rules.
