AmeriCorps Seniors – Elder Mentor & Senior Companion Programs (RurAL CAP)
Statewide volunteer programs (RurAL CAP recruits in Ketchikan and Saxman too) for Alaskans 55 and older: Elder Mentors tutor and mentor youth (or serve as culture bearers) in schools, Head Starts and youth agencies; Senior Companions give other seniors rides, companionship and respite. Volunteers serve 5+ hours a week; income-eligible volunteers receive an hourly stipend, PTO, holiday pay, meal and mileage reimbursement, and a paid annual training trip to Anchorage.
