Borrow a SPOT satellite device from KVRS before a backcountry trip

KVRS lends SPOT satellite messengers free of charge so hikers, hunters and boaters can call for help where there's no cell service. Pick one up in person and fill out a trip plan at a partner location: Alaska State Troopers Ketchikan Post (7366 N Tongass Hwy), Ketchikan Public Library (1110 Copper Ridge Ln, 907-225-3331) or the Ketchikan Visitors Bureau (131 Front St). Leave a trip plan with someone, and carry the ten essentials plus bear spray. To report a missing or overdue hiker call Alaska State Troopers 907-225-5118 (emergency: 911).
