The City's Solid Waste Division runs curbside garbage collection for city residents (billed on the KPU bill) and the Deer Mountain Landfill/transfer station at 1103 Nordstrom Drive, open Mon-Sat 8 am-4 pm, phone 907-225-2370. Landfill disposal is $233.07 per ton with a $25 minimum. The Recycle Center takes separated cardboard, aluminum, glass, used oil, auto batteries, fluorescent bulbs and brush; household hazardous waste drop-off Mon-Sat for residents only. Closed on major holidays (the page lists the year's dates, e.g. Veterans Day Nov 11 and Thanksgiving Nov 26, 2026), with pickup usually one day late that week. Borough residents outside city limits contract a private hauler or self-haul.
