Bethel Sprint Mushers Club dog races (December-April)

The Bethel Sprint Mushers Club hosts sprint sled-dog races on the Kuskokwim and tundra trails from late December through mid-April: one-day races of 20-32 miles (8-10 dog limit, $100 entry paid at the start, $25,000-$30,000 purse paid to the top 15) and a three-day race in March (32 miles/day from Charles Family Lake toward Atmautluak and back, 10-dog limit, $300 entry, $75,000 purse to top 20). Races start at noon or 1-2 p.m. from Charles Family Lake or near the mouth of the small boat harbor, with a mushers' meeting and starting-position drawing about an hour before. Dates, trails and results are posted on the club's Facebook page; spectators welcome.
